In many states, primary voters are limited to voting for
candidates only within their indicated party affiliation. This
prohibition on open primaries limits the independent voter from
participating in a primary unless they are willing to declare for
a particular party. This is contrary to the founding principles of
the country where the voter was primary and any party was
secondary in importance. This is another instance where the
current Democrat and Republican duopoly has perverted the system
by limiting the voting rights of Independents.
All
taxpayers pay to support primary voting. There is no justification
to limit the rights of Independents other than the self interests
of the major parties. To restore balance and fairness to the
system, all voters should have the option to choose whichever
candidate to vote for without declaring for a particular party. |
